Somerville Police Department Earns State Accreditation
Certified status means the department meets professional standards.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The Somerville Police Department this week earned accreditation status from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission. In order to achieve certified status, departments must meet standards defined for the profession by law enforcement.
In Massachusetts, the process to gain state accreditation is voluntary. The commission sends a team of assessors to police departments to review policies, procedures, operations and facilities. In order to achieve accreditation status, a police department must meet all applicable 257 mandatory standards and 60 percent of the 125 optional standards.
Accreditation status is considered one of the highest standards of professional excellence in law enforcement.
