Somerville Police Officer Suspended After Alleged Assault

The officer was sent to a weeklong drug and alcohol rehab program.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A Somerville police officer has been placed on administrative leave following an alleged assault. Paul Duffy pleaded not guilty Friday to a charge of assault on a family member. Officers were called to his Wilmington home around 5 a.m. that day.

Duffy reportedly told the responding officers they should be "ashamed" for arresting a "brother officer." According to police reports, he appeared drunk and asked for forgiveness, saying the arrest would ruin his pension.

Duffy was sent to a weeklong drug and alcohol rehabilitation program following his plea.
