Somerville Receives $13M For Union Square Improvements
The MassWorks funding will go toward an overhaul of the square's water and sewer infrastructure.

SOMERVILLE, MA – Gov. Charlie Baker announced $13 million in state funding for Somerville Thursday ahead of planned improvements to Union Square.
The funding comes from the MassWorks Infrastructure Program and will go toward an overhaul of Union Square's water and sewer infrastructure. These improvements will allow for an investment of $200 million in private funds to bring 400 housing units and 180,000 square feet of commercial space to the area.

According to the governor, Thursday's award builds on a 2015 MassWorks grant, as well as funding matched by Somerville, to make streetscape improvements along Prospect Street in Union Square.
