Somerville Redevelopment Authority Seeks New Member

Want to get involved in the nitty gritty of what makes Somerville tick? Submit your resume by the end of this month.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A vacancy has opened on the five-member board of the Somerville Redevelopment Authority, and now's your chance to fill it.

In recent years, the SRA has been instrumental in the transit-oriented redevelopment of Assembly Row, as well as the Union Square Revitalization Plan. The SRA also declares an area substandard, decadent and/or blighted, and determines it eligible for urban renewal.

Urban renewal plans and their implementation are the responsibility of the SRA, as well.

Ideal candidates must be Somerville residents with experience in any or all of the following fields: community planning, public transportation, transit-oriented development, real estate development, housing or financial services, and design and architecture.

Members meet monthly and serve staggered terms of five years or shorter, if the appointment comes during an unfulfilled term of a prior member. This position's term will end on Sept. 12, 2019.

Four of the SRA's five members are appointed by the mayor; one is appointed by the governor. This position will be a mayoral appointment. Those interested are invited to send a statement of interest and resume to planning@somervillema.gov by the end of business hours on Dec. 22.
