Somerville Resident Named Boston Book Festival 'One City One Story' Author

"Relativity," by local author and Emerson College professor Daphne Kalotay, will make its public debut Oct. 28.

SOMERVILLE, MA – A local author and college professor has been named this year's Boston Book Festival "One City One Story" author. Daphne Kalotay, a Somerville resident and Emerson College instructor, will debut her latest story, "Relativity," at the Oct. 28 event.

"Relativity" tells the story of Robert, a social worker who provides end-of-life care to Holocaust survivors. Through his work he comes across many stories and personalities, none of which are as memorable as Rozsa Fischer. Recently suffering a personal loss of his own, Robert forms a special bond with Rozsa as they develop a greater understanding of loss, family and what it means to heal.

"The BBF is pleased to present Daphne Kalotay's poignant short story, ‘Relativity,’ as our 2017 One City One Story city-wide read," Deborah Z Porter, founder and executive director of the Boston Book Festival, said in a statement. "It is our mission to encourage and promote the joy of reading for all, so we make sure to distribute One City One Story throughout our city's neighborhoods and make it free to all. We are grateful to BookBub for sponsoring One City One Story again this year."

Kalotay will discuss her work with audience members during the free "One City One Story" session at the ninth annual Boston Book Festival, Oct. 28 in Copley Square.

"Initiatives such as Boston Book Festival’s One City One Story also bring the literary arts to our residents where they live, work, and play," Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said in a press release. "Encountering short fiction at farmers’ markets, coffee shops, festivals, City offices, and transit stations reminds Boston readers of the centrality of great literature to the life of our city and encourages us all to engage not only with a great story, but also with each other."
