Somerville Voter Registration Deadline Approaching
The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming preliminary election is this month. Here's how to get it done.

SOMERVILLE, MA – The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming municipal election is fast approaching. Voters must register or update their address by Wednesday, Aug. 30 in order to participate in the September Preliminary Election.
The Preliminary Election is Sept. 19, followed by the General Election Nov. 7. Click this link for a list of this year's candidates.

To register to vote in Somerville you must be:
- A U.S. citizen,
- a Somerville resident, and
- at least 18 years old on, or before, the next election.
Register Online or Update Voter Information:
https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/
Please note: Online applications require a valid ID issued by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV), as well as a signature on file with the RMV.

Call 617-625-6600 X4200 to have a form be mailed to you, or download a registration form. (English / Español / Zhōngwén)
An acknowledgement notice will be sent confirming that you are registered.

Absentee Voting
To vote absentee, you must be unable to vote on Election Day due to (1) absence from City during the hours the Polls are open; (2) physical disability preventing you from going to the polling place; or (3) religious belief.
Absentee ballot applications are available upon request from the Election Commission office, or they can be downloaded online. Absentee ballots for family members are also available. Written communiqué with original signature and relevant information requesting absentee ballot may also serve as an application. Penalty for Illegal Registration: Fine of not more than $10,000 or imprisonment for not more than five years, or both.

In order to participate in any election, primary or preliminary the Deadline for Voter Registration is at least 20 days before.
