State Grants Somerville $100k For Police, Fire

The Baker-Polito administration awarded over $4 million in grants to 10 communities.

Somerville was awarded $100,000 in the form of a state grant to help fund the police and fire departments, the governor’s office announced Monday.

The police and fire departments each got $50,000.

The Governor Charlie Baker-Lt. Governor Karyn Polito administration awarded over $4 million to 15 police and fire departments over 10 communities, including Malden, Newton, Lynn, Lowell, Lawrence, Framingham, Haverhill, Brockton, and Fall River.

“Communities across the Commonwealth should feel confident that their police and fire are staffed adequately to do their job whenever the call for help comes in,” said Baker in a statement. “These resources will support our municipalities and first responders in keeping their communities safe.”
