Thursday: Somerville Open Studios Kicks-Off Party

Volunteers run the annual event that brings thousands of visitors to art studios throughout Somerville.

It may be months away, but the artists and volunteers behind Somerville Open Studios are throwing a kick-off party Wednesday so they can plan for the 2013 art event and, hopefully, rope in a few volunteers.

The party will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at The Burren in Davis Square, with free food donated by the restaurant.

If you bring a blank T-shirt (or tote bag, boxers or anything else that's cloth, preferably 100 percent cotton) folks from Artisan's Asylum will help you print your own Somerville Open Studios shirt, according to an announcement from Open Studios.

Somerville Open Studios team leaders will introduce themselves and sign up volunteers. The event, which happens every May throughout Somerville, includes hundreds of participating artists and brings thousands of people into the city. The whole event is run by volunteers.

At Wednesday's kick-off party, you can also learn about this year's new registration guidelines and the 2013 budget, according to the announcement.
