Union Square Post Office Sold, May Become Arts Venue

The new owners have agreed to allow public access to the post office's New Deal-era mural.

The U.S. Postal Service has sold the former Union Square Post Office to an investment group associated with arts and entertainment promoter Don Law, according to the city.

The Postal Service sold the building, at 237 Washington St., for $2.75 million to Union Square Partners LLC, which is based in Cambridge.

According to the city, representatives from the investment group have told the city that there is no formal proposal for the re-use of the building, which is listed on the National Historic Register, at this time, but they will be looking into the feasibility of a number of different uses, including the possibility of locating an arts venue with a cafe or restaurant in the space.
