Students at MIT have a very unusual way of commemorating the deadline for dropping classes each semester.
Back in April, students reportedly were flinging pianos off the Baker House dormitory. Reports suggest that this “ritual” is done to commemorate the last day that students are able to drop classes for the semester. Although this is bizarre, its probably a good way to blow off steam.

- Voodoo Priestess Runs Over Supposed Adulterer With Car, Say Police: Back in February, Josefa Martinez attempted to mow down a woman who Martinez alleges was having an affair with her husband. The victim later alleged that Martinez threatened to use dirt from a freshly-dug grave to do away with the victim via death curse in a previous harassing phone call.
- Man Convicted on Drug Charges Hid Cocaine, Heroin in Prosthetic Leg: Imran Laltaprasad was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and heroin in July. Laltaprasad was arrested with the drugs hidden in his prosthetic leg.
- WATCH: Piano Thrown Off 6-Story MIT Building: Students at MIT dropped a piano off a six-story campus building back in April. This is reportedly a tradition that commemorates the last day that students are allowed to drop classes for the semester.
- Self-Proclaimed ‘ISIS’ Affiliate Hacks Somerville Bar: A Somerville Bar’s website was hacked by self-proclaimed Islamic State virtual graffiti in March. Backbar was one of many establishments hacked with virtual graffiti reading “Hacked by Islamic State (ISIS) We are Everywhere.”
- Arts Council Planning Union Square ‘Pity Party’: The Somerville Arts Council teamed up with Greg Cook to plan a ‘pity party’ in Union Square in September. Partygoers were to wallow in sadness, binge on ice cream, and listen to sad songs.
