Somerville Hit-And-Run Victim ID'd; Driver Turns Self In
The 52-year-old Somerville woman was killed in Saturday night's crash.
SOMERVILLE, MA — The driver of the car that fatally struck a Somerville woman on Mystic Avenue Saturday evening turned himself in. State Police arrested Zewdu Abate Gedamu, 64, of Roxbury, Sunday morning.
Gedamu is accused of striking Cheryl Pauline Richards, 52, with his Mercedes-Benz before driving off. He is charged with leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury or death and a crosswalk violation.
Gedamu is being held on $1,000 bail and is expected to be Arraigned Monday morning in Somerville District Court. More charges could follow pending the investigation.

State Police said Richards was struck south of Route 28 near the Stop & Shop. She was brought to Massachusetts General Hospital.
Police said Gedamu kept driving southbound after the crash.
