Stoughton High Football Team One Win Away From Super Bowl
The Black Knights will be playing Plymouth South in the Division 3 semifinals at Brockton High's Marciano Stadium at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner will earn a trip to the Division 3 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium.

Now, it comes down to this.
If the Stoughton High football team defeats Plymouth South at Brockton's Marciano Stadium Friday at 7 p.m., they'll earn a trip to the Division 3 Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium Dec. 7 against either Melrose or Tewksbury. Those two teams will be playing Saturday at Lowell's Cawley Stadium.
All playoff long, the Black Knights have been playing the underdog role, and they have used it as a rallying cry. They weren't favored to beat Oliver Ames, the No. 1 seed and the only team to beat Stoughton this year last week. Stoughton proved the critics wrong with a thrilling 16-14 win over the Tigers.
"That's for the people who didn't think we'd get anywhere, and that's even better," said Stoughton High head coach Greg Burke after the OA game. "I'm so happy for the kids and the town."
During the entire season, the Black Knights have battled key injures, only to find other people stepping up to help keep them winning games.
"It's been a lot of hard work," said Burke. "We have great kids. We are 9-1 this year and we were 9-1 last year, so that's 18-2 and that's pretty good."
Another key factor for the Black Knights is that they have taken playoffs just one game at a time. They believe in themselves, and that can bring home a Super Bowl title.
"I have great faith in the team," said senior running back Lennox Green after the OA game. "We're going to go far and we're not stopping here."
FIVE KEYS TO THE GAMES
A SCORING MACHINE - A good bet going into Friday night's game is that Green is going to find his way into the end zone. The running back has scored seven touchdowns in the three postseason games and 15 in 10 games. If Plymouth South wants to have any chance of going to Gillette Stadium, Green is going to have to be kept in check.
WE LIKE THE FAKE STUFF - Even though their home field is grass, the Black Knights are 4-0 on the turf this year, beating Pembroke, Milton, Milford and Oliver Ames in the Division 3 Southwest finals. They'll be trying to make it 5-0 at on Marciano Stadium's turf.
POWER I TIME - After playing three teams that operated under the spread offense, the Black Knights will be facing a team more like them. Plymouth South favors the run game with Dylan Oxsen getting most of the carries. Like the Black Knights, Plymouth South is very strong on the front line.
GIBB'S DEVELOPMENT - The Stoughton coaches have tried to ease sophomore quarterback Jake Gibb into things, by relying on the running game early against OA. In the final drive of the game, the quarterback came of age, leading the game-winning drive and then kicking the winning field goal. During that drive, Gibb connected with junior tight-end Brian Crimmins for a couple of big plays. Crimmins had been used a blocker for most of the year, but showed he has a good pair of hands.
CLOCK MANAGEMENT - With both teams favoring running attacks, a big portion of the clock could be killed off by the offenses of both teams. Stoughton tends to wear down opponents offensively. Plymouth South is only giving up 10.6 points per game, but the Black Knights have scored more than 40 points four times.
