Stoughton Obituaries (Week of July 2)
The following are obituaries for Stoughton residents or those with Stoughton ties for the week of July 2: Eileen C. (McCarthy) Marston; Christopher E. Backman; Burton J. Polansky; and Joan T. Campbell.

EILEEN C. (MCCARTHY) MARSTON
Eileen C. (McCarthy) Marston, 65, a former Stoughton school teacher and a resident of Stoughton, died at the Hellenic Nursing Home in Canton on Monday, July 2. Daughter of the late William and Edith (Durant) McCarthy, she was born in Boston and was a graduate of Girls Latin School and Boston State College.
She was a resident of Stoughton for seven years after living in Brockton for many years. Ms. Marston was a teacher in Stoughton for 30 years. After she retired, she also traveled the world as a tour guide for several years.

Ms. Marston is survived by her brothers, Richard McCarthy of Brockton and William McCarthy of Ormond Beach, Florida. She is also survived by four nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held from the , 358 Park St. (Rt.27), in Stoughton on Tuesday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at in Stoughton at 10:30 a.m.. Visiting hours are Monday from 5-8 p.m. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Stoughton.

CHRISTOPHER E. BACKMAN
Christopher E. Backman, 47, of Middleboro, died suddenly on July 4, 2012 following a car accident. Backman was driving in Middleboro where his car was struck by a wrong-way driver.
Backman was the loving father of Kerry A. Backman, Kyle C. Backman and Cassandra R. Backman, all of Stoughton.
Devoted son of Eva (Ross) Backman of Maynard and the late Clifford Backman. Grandson of Clara Ross of New York. Brother of Clifford Backman of Maynard, Vickie L. Murray of Hanover and Wendi S. McGrath of Needham.
Christopher is also survived by the mother of his children, Carol M. Backman and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be held at St. Gregory Church, Dorchester Ave. Dorchester, Wednesday July 11 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St. Dorchester Lower Mills, Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment private.

BURTON J. POLANSKY
Burton Polansky, 84, was born on June 22, 1928 and passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012.
Burton was a resident of Stoughton, Massachusetts at the time of his passing.
He was a graduate of Hobart College, class of 1951 and Columbia University School of Physicians and Surgeons, class of 1955.
He is survived by his wife Faye.
Services were held at the Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, in Canton on Tuesday, July 3.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, Transitional Care Unit, 680 Centre St, Brockton, MA, 02302.

JOAN T. CAMPBELL
Joan T. Campbell, 74, of Canton and Englewood, FL, and a former Stoughton resident, died June 21, 2012 at Renaissance Gardens, Linden Ponds in Hingham after a brief illness.
The daughter of the late Angelo and Nicolina (Ciardi) Ragusa, she was born in Boston, Nov. 6, 1937. She was raised and educated in Hyde Park, raised her family in Stoughton and retired to Canton and Englewood FL.
Mrs. Campbell had worked for the MBTA for over 20 years, retiring as a dispatcher in 2000. She loved dancing, playing mahjong with friends, cooking, entertaining and traveling. She was very active at the Canton Senior Center and was named Elk of the month, the first month she joined the Elks Club in Englewood. But what mattered most to her in life was her family and close friends.
She was the loving mother of Richard Campbell of Brockton, Cathy Horton of Pembroke, John Campbell of Canton, Lynne Kelley of Norton and Lisa Petrillo of Marshfield; devoted grandmother of 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; sister of John Ragusa of Plymouth and Paul Ragusa of Boston; and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was the wife of Richard Campbell of Florida and dear friend of Bob Bartlett of NH. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Dana Farber, Brigham and Womens and Renaissance Gardens for their care and compassion.
Arrangements were made by the Sullivan Funeral Home in Hanover. A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at St. Christine's Church in Marshfield.
