Ben Cutting, Jen Gossels Tops in Sudbury Fourth of July Road Race
Levi Hunsberger, Ariel Keklak take first in kids 1.5-mile race.
In the bright sunshine, and temperatures and humidity rising on Monday morning, 285 adult runners and 53 youngsters gathered at to test their endurance and speed in the 47th running of the Sudbury Fourth of July Road Race.
Class of 2009 L-S graduates Ben Cutting and Jen Gossels finished first in the adult men's and women's divisions, respectively. Cutting finished first overall with a time of 21:29 for the 3.75-mile course, while Gossels finished 13th overall at 24:10.
In the kids race, notable athletes Levi Hunsberger and Ariel Keklak led the pack over the 1.5-mile course. Hunsberger finished first overall at 8:58, followed closely by Keklak in second place overall with a time of 9:15.
Awards were presented to the top three finishers in each age and gender sub-group.

Although awards are reserved for Sudbury residents, several non-resident runners with Sudbury connections posted outstanding results. Curtis Middle School math teacher and cross country and track coach Michael Clements posted the best time (23:54) in the Men 30-39 category, finishing 11th overall. Meanwhile, L-S wellness instructor and head track and field coach Mel Gonsalves crossed the line at 22:45, the third best time in the Men 40-49 category, and seventh overall.
