PHOTO OF THE DAY: Sen. Eldridge Reads To Sudbury Second-Graders

Sen. Jamie Eldridge took time out of his day to read a story to Sudbury second graders.

SUDBURY, MA — As part of the #readacrossamerica initiative, Sen. Jamie Eldridge, D-Acton, took his reading skills on the road to tell a tale to Sudbury second graders on Friday.

Eldridge read "One" by Kathryn Otoshi at the Israel Loring Elementary School.

According to an Amazon description, "One" is geared for budding young readers to learn about numbers, counting, and primary and secondary colors, but also about accepting each other's differences and how it sometimes just takes one voice to make everyone count.

Read Across America, which began as a celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday on March 2, 1998, has grown into an initiative in cities and towns across the country in which "teachers, teenagers, librarians, politicians, actors, athletes, parents, grandparents, and others develop NEA's Read Across America activities to bring reading excitement to children of all ages. Governors, mayors, and other elected officials recognize the role reading plays in their communities with proclamations and floor statements. Athletes and actors issue reading challenges to young readers. And teachers and principals seem to be more than happy to dye their hair green or be duct-taped to a wall if it boosts their students' reading."
