Police, Staff Hold Active Shooter Training At L-S High School
A successful ALICE training was held at the high school, and a new plan was put in place to update the school's safety review system.

SUDBURY, MA—Staff and students finished a full, all-school, ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) Training along with Lincoln and Sudbury's police departments on Thursday.
Members of the L-S Safety Council, which is comprised of school staff, meets next week to de-brief with the local safety officers, said Superintendent of Schools Bella Wong in a letter to the school community.
"I commend all students and staff for an attentive and thoughtful drill," she wrote. "I thank Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix and Lincoln Police Chief Kevin Kennedy for attending the L-S School Committee meeting last Tuesday evening on the topic of school safety at L-S. We spoke of the extent of our collaboration and cooperation to ensure protocols based on best practices are in place."

Officials recommended a new safety review for the high school to the School Committee. The review builds on a report done in 2007. A sub-committee made up of school and community representatives will oversee the process and report its findings to the School Committee.

South House Associate Principal Peter Elenbaas directed the ALICE drill over the PA and ended with the following remarks: “We all bore witness to a tragic event in Florida two weeks ago that highlights the importance of this drill. It does not make it any easier to do. I applaud your courage and willingness to care for one another. I close by noting something that gives me faith in L-S. Staff, here, care about the students they work with. Students I have met here care about staff and their peers. Care and compassion are at the core of our school mission and our safety. “
The training had originally been scheduled for Feb. 15, soon after the Parkland, FL, shooting, and Superintendent Bella Wong made the decision to postpone the training out of sensitivity for the students.
