Seniors Needed for 'Bridges: Growing Together' School Program

This program fosters friendships between older adults and kids. Do you have time to volunteer?

Do you enjoy spending time with enthusiastic, curious, eager, bright-eyed children? This program is seeking enthusiastic, curious, eager, bright-eyed adults 55 and older.

Bridges: Growing Together is an award-winning intergenerational program that fosters friendships and understanding between older adults and children in our elementary schools. The program is designed to convey that growing up and growing older are in many ways the same and, yet, are different for each and every one of us.
In Sudbury, every 4th grade classroom participates in the program.

A group of eight senior volunteers collaborate with the students in each class – working in pairs with small groups of children, under the guidance of the classroom teacher. Each week, the classroom teacher presents a short lesson. Then, students and seniors have a discussion sharing their life experiences. Together, they enjoy a fun and educational project.
