Sudbury Proposes Washington, D.C. Trip For Middle Schoolers
Superintendent Brad Crozier wants 8th graders studying civics to see how government works in the nation's capital.
SUDBURY, MA — Sudbury 8th graders studying civics may soon get a chance to really see how the sausage gets made. Superintendent Brad Crozier wants students to start visiting Washington, D.C., as part of the curriculum.
The Sudbury School Committee still has to approve the idea, but the inaugural trip would happen in June 2021, Crozier says. The trip would give Curtis Middle School students a glimpse of how the U.S. political system works, and allow them to actually see founding documents like the Constitution.
The proposed four-day trip, coordinated through the tour company Education First, would take students on tours of Congress, the Supreme Court, museums, the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, and other landmarks.

"This trip will be a one-of-a-kind opportunity for our 8th graders to bring their classroom experiences to life and visit some of our country's most important landmarks," Crozier said in a statement.
The school district is planning an information session this spring for parents.
