Sudbury Schools Looking for Committee to Explore Later Start Times

A committee is being created to explore the idea of creating later start times for the schools. Are you interested?

SUDBURY, MA—Many argue that if students, and teachers, had a later start time, productivity and attention would increase. The Sudbury school system wants to research the idea of starting school at a later time.

Sudbury Public Schools Committee (SPSC) is creating a committee to explore later school start times with a focus at the middle school level. The committee will consist of two SPSC members, the superintendent, administrators and teaching staff from elementary and middle schools, parents and members of the community, said the announcement.

The objectives of the committee are:
1. Examine the research from sources such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association that suggest later school start times are beneficial for adolescents
2. Review information from school districts that have already implemented, or are in the process of implementing later school start times
3. Seek input from and inform the community throughout the process.
