Swastika Found in Sudbury Middle School Bathroom

Police are investigating a Swastika drawn in a middle school bathroom in Sudbury.

A swastika found in the boy’s bathroom at the Curtis Middle School in Sudbury is raising concerns.

Sudbury Superintendent Anne Wilson and Police Chief Scott Nix of the Sudbury Police Department are investigating a report of the drawing found in the bathroom on Monday.

“The swastika is a symbol of hate, and the Sudbury Police Department strives to ensure that our community is inclusive and welcoming to all people and cultures,” Chief Nix said in a statement. “We will investigate this, and we will make sure that students understand that hate speech will not be tolerated.”

The swastika was found by a building custodian.

Police and school officials are planning to meet with students “to ensure they are educated in the hateful meaning of the symbols and the repercussions of using them. “

Administrators met with 8th grade boys on Monday in two separate sessions to address the seriousness of the incident.

“Parents and guardians are encouraged to have honest, open discussions with their children about the situation,” said the release. 

Police and school officials have spoken with a local Rabbi in Sudbury, who has offered any assistance that would be beneficial. Officials have also contacted the Anti-Defamation League for guidance and educational resources.

The Police Department does not believe any specific student was targeted.
