City Opening Emergency Shelter Due to Extreme Cold

The city has announced it will be opening up the emergency shelter.

Waltham officials have decided to open up the emergency shelter located at the Bright School at the corner of Bright and Grove Streets due to the extreme weather conditions.

The shelter opens at 3 p.m. on Wednesday and will remain open until noon on Friday.

Police said any Waltham residents may use the shelter, which has cots, blankets and bathroom facilities (no showers).

Sgt. Bob Scapone also added that the city is concerned with the homeless population, with Scapone stating there are roughly 25-30 in Waltham.

“The shelter will be manned by police, and it is open all hours,” said Sgt. Scapone.
