Crews Battle 4-Alarm Blaze in Waltham

Firefighters battle a blaze at School Street duplex. Firefighters struggle with frozen hydrants and pumps.

New England Fire News reported that a 4th alarm has been sounded for a fire that started in a cellar this morning, climbing the wood frame duplex to the second floor and the attic.

The fire, at 62 School St., is heavy throughout and reports are that companies had been ordered out of the building by 8:30 a.m..

At 9:17 a.m., “heavy fire conditions” continued with a partial roof collapse on one said. Firefighters experienced frozen hydrants and pump freeze ups. Firefighter Matt Carter Tweeted that Engine 4 reported that its pump was freezing up.

At 9:35 a.m., the heavy fire continued, with a partial collapse, according to NorthEast Fire Alert. FOX 25 News reported that “everybody got out, but crews are having trouble finding a water source.”

By 1 p.m., the fire was knocked down, and reportedly there were no injuries.
