Election Day In Waltham's Ward 6: What To Know

Tuesday's preliminary election was a fight for the Ward 6 seat.

WALTHAM, MA — Tuesday was election day in Waltham for at least part of the Watch City. Residents of Waltham’s Ward 6 head to the polls today to pick two finalists in the special election to fill the Ward 6 City Council seat.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. and, according to one Patch reader, as of 2 p.m. only about 332 people had voted at the two polling sites 6-1 and 6-2. As of 4:30 p.m., roughly 13 percent of Ward 6's 3,300 registered voters cast ballots, the Waltham Cable Access TV station, reported.

The seat became vacant after former Robert Waddick, resigned in May to apply for the City Clerk Position. He was in the running with a couple others, and appointed June 16.

Today's election will narrow the current field of five looking to replace Waddick. Those two will then face off on the Sept. 25. election. Six residents pulled papers to throw their names in the ring for the job, including Adam Crossman, Sharline Nabulime, Steven Lester, Sean Durkee, Richard Hynes, Deborah Schreiber and Charles Smerlas.

In the end, five candidates were certified.
