Grand Opening of HATCH

at The Arsenal Project

– If you’re the kind of person that has dreamed of creating a walking robot out of cardboard then HATCH at the Arsenal Project is for you. An initiative of the Watertown Free Public Library, HATCH is Watertown’s first Makerspace – a place for creators, inventors and DIYers to share equipment, tools and ideas.
HATCH will open on Sunday, January 25th with a reception and unveiling outside the space at 1pm. Then at 2pm the doors will open and adults and kids are invited to come in and watch “skill mentors” demonstrate how to make fun electronic projects that range from simple hand buzzers to computer based alarms that alert your smart phone when your laundry is finished. Attendees will be invited to try their hand at these creations as well as to experience many other demonstrations including the space’s innovative 3D Printer. There will even be a demo on how to make a cardboard robot that can walk!
“Our goal has been to create a space that will allow the area’s many creators and makers to share their expertise with each other and with the public,” says Caitlin Browne, Assistant Director of the Watertown Free Public Library. “Makerspaces like this are popping up in communities all over the country and we’re so pleased to bring the first one to this area.”
“We believe in the mission of HATCH and we’re happy to provide the space to make it possible,” says Allyson Reed, General Manager of the Arsenal Project. “Our goal as we continue to evolve is to become a true part of the thread of Watertown. Hatch is an important and wonderful piece of that.”
In addition to the Arsenal Project, Watertown Free Public Library’s HATCH is supported by the Watertown Community Foundation and the Watertown Free Public Library Building Committee.
