About 3,000 police officers from across the United States are part of the event's security detail, according to the Washington Post.

WALTHAM, MA – Three Waltham police officers are joining thousands from across the nation as part of the security detail on Inauguration Day.
Det. Jorge Orta, Sgt. Stephen McCarthy and Officer Charles Dichiara were assigned to the detail as members of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC). Orta is on the Tactical Police Force and McCarthy and Dichiara are members of the SWAT team.
According to the Washington Post, security included 3,000 police officers from across the country and 5,000 members of the National Guard. The total number of security officials at Friday's event will be 28,000, forming a grid around 100 square blocks, the Post reported.

According to the Waltham Police Department, NEMLEC's participation in the Inauguration Ceremony is federally funded; the New York Times reported this week that the event could cost around $200 million, which is divvied up among private donors and federal, state and local governments.
Orta, McCarthy and Dichiara were sworn in Thursday as part of the security detail. The Inauguration Ceremony will begin Friday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m.
