It's OK to Say 'Hi' This Week

Don't feel like a weirdo. Waltham's official 'Say Hi to Your Neighbors Week' continues.

If more people than usual are saying hello to you this week in the stores and on the street, don’t fret. Embrace the spirit. It’s “Say Hi to Your Neighbors Week” in Waltham from March 21-28.

On Sunday, local churches made announcements during services. On Monday, a “Flash Coffee Car” was held at the train station, where commuters and neighbors got free coffee. In the evening, City Council met to establish the resolution for “Say Hi Week.”

On Tuesday, customers got 50 percent off their meal at the Pickle Restaurant. And over at Shoppers Cafe, there was a meet and greet with Waltham’s social media and media correspondents.

On Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m., the Waltham Rotary Club met, and the senior BINGO players celebrated “Say Hi Week,” too.

On Thursday, at 12:15 p.m., say hi at the monthly luncheon at Marist Hill. At 1 p.m., Neighbors Who Care and the Waltham Housing Authority host a spring tea in the community room of the housing complex.

Peers Against Violence (PAVE) are passing out lollipops to raise awareness, while City Councilor Tom Stanley and State Rep. John Lawn hang out at the Dunkin’ Donuts from 2-3 p.m.

A community peace vigil is held at 12:20 p.m. at the peace circle behind Usdan Student Center at Brandeis University on Friday, March 27. And out on the street from noon to 1 p.m., the Waltham Community Access Corporation staff is holding “Say Hi: signs and waving to passing traffic on Main Street.

And on Saturday, there’s a free scavenger hunt starting at Tempo Bistro at 11 a.m. Teams race on foot in the Moody and Main street areas looking for clues.
