Peggy Martin Memorial Scholarship Established

Scholarship created to honor recently deceased educator

Marguerite “Peggy” Martin , a retired Waltham Public Schools teacher, died on January 19 of this year. A graduate of the University of Maine at Orono and a Reading resident, Miss Martin taught algebra and geometry first at Kennedy Junior High School and then Waltham High School for 37 years. Miss Martin wouldn’t settle for anything less than her students’ best work, yet she also took under her wing and encouraged many struggling students as well as neophyte teachers. After her retirement, she divided her time between her home in Lantana, Florida, and her beloved lakeside cottage in New Hampshire.

To recognize Miss Martin’s many years of service and to honor her memory, several of her colleagues has established a scholarship. It will be awarded this year to a Waltham High School graduate who excels at or plans to major in mathematics. Anyone wishing to honor Miss Martin should change his/her donation check made payable to Waltham High School with “Peggy Martin Memorial Scholarship” on the memo line to Regina Pacitti at 168 Longfellow Road in Waltham  02453.
