PHOTOS: Waltham Educator, Police Officer Selfies Show Police Are 'Approachable'

Textbook example of community policing ahead of Public Service Recognition Week.

WALTHAM, MA – One local educator wanted to turn an encounter with a Waltham police officer into a teachable moment. Gertrude, who works with the Work, Community, Independence (WCI) program in Waltham, ran into Officer Bob Williams earlier this week while out with some of her students.

She said she wanted to take selfies with Williams to show her students that police officers are "approachable." Judging by those smiles, Williams was more than happy to oblige.

According to the police department, Gertrude sent a letter after the meeting that "made Officer Williams' day."
