Skating Rink Closes to Evaluate Roof, Building
After a Canton skating rink's roof collapsed, Waltham joined other cities and towns in evaluating its own rink's safety.
A day after the roof of a skating rink in Canton collapsed, sending people fleeing from the building, Waltham has joined other communities to evaluate its own rinks.
Since the Veterans Memorial Skating Rink is similar in structure to the Canton rink, officials decided to shut it down on Sunday so contractors could evaluate the structure, reported WCVB.Snow was also removed from the roof.
Waltham’s Recreation Department operates the Veterans Memorial Skating Rink on Totten Pond Road seven days a week. It offers open skates, league play and lessons.
