State Accepting Applications for Mooring Spots on the Charles
The deadline for the lottery is April 29.

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is now offering applications for those boat owners who would like a mooring spot on the Charles River this season.
According to a press release sent out by the DCR, applications were available starting March 21 for the lottery, which will award 60 mooring spots. The deadline to apply is Friday, April 29.
The mooring spots are awarded for one season and available to those "private pleasure" boat owners with vessels up to 35 feet long, the press release said. The DCR will charge $6 per linear foot of the boat and those who are chosen must install a Coast Guard-approved mooring.

Those who are interested in applying for spotmust include a current Massachusetts boat registration for the boat they are looking to use on the Charles. Commercial boats and boats for hire are not allowed.
Boats are moored on the Cambridge side of the river between the First Street Landing and Poorman's Landing. The mooring season runs from May 16, 2011 to Nov. 16, 2011. All moorings must be removed by Nov. 17, 2011, the release said.

To obtain an application for the mooring lottery, call the DCR at 617-626-1483 or pick up an application in person at 251 Causeway Street, Boston, 8th floor, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Completed applications can be sent to Russ Geer, DCR Park Ranger Marine Unit, 8th floor, 251 Causeway Street, Boston. Applicants will be notified whether they receive a spot within 10 days after the lottery.
