The NWS is predicting 10-14 inches of snow for most of Eastern Massachusetts. The South Shore closest to Cape Cod will likely get anywhere from 6-8 to 8-10 inches. Cape Cod and the Islands’ snowfall totals will range from 4-6 inches to 10-14 inches (see snowfall map for specifics), according to the NWS.

The snow is expected to gradually taper off on Tuesday morning.

The NWS said travel will be dangerous during the morning and evening commutes on Monday. Blowing and drifting snow will cause an additional issue with visibility.

The wind will also make the weather unbearable with wind chill factors as low as 25 below zero predicted on Monday.

The National Weather Service is predicting a “significant snowfall” on Sunday night and through Monday.

The NWS said 8-12 inches of snow is possible. Snow will fall heaviest during the day on Monday before tapering off on Monday night, said the NWS.

The NWS issued a Winter Storm Watch from 7 p.m. Sunday to 1 a.m. Tuesday for Eastern and Central Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Travel could be “hazardous” on Monday with blowing and drifting snow likely. Winds may gust up to 35 mph, according to the NWS.
