Waltham Resident Nancy Baker Joins MGH Institute of Health Professions as Assistant Professor

Waltham resident Nancy Baker, PhD, ANP-BC, has joined the MGH Institute of Health Professions as an Assistant Professor of Nursing.

BOSTON – Waltham resident Nancy Baker, PhD, ANP-BC, has joined the MGH Institute of Health Professions as an Assistant Professor of Nursing.

Prior to joining the MGH Institute, she specialized in primary care women’s health evaluations at Boston College Health Services, and was responsible for the delivery of comprehensive health care services to college students for the past twenty years.

Over the years, Nancy has served on many committees and developed many policies on nursing care standards. She helped to promote NP autonomy by advocating for legislative issues such as NP prescriptive authority and submitting testimony, on proposed changes to the laws on immunization requirements. She also has extensive experience enforcing public health surveillance of infectious diseases.

Her research interest is evaluating the influence of mind/body/spirit techniques in reducing stress effects and improving overall wellness. She has been practicing mind/body spirit techniques for approximately 10 years. Her doctoral dissertation study was titled: “Does daily practice of meditation or coherent breathing influence stress, anxiety, or holistic wellness in college freshmen and sophomores?” She has conducted several poster presentations regarding her dissertation study outcome and a podium presentation at the New England College Health Association meeting in the fall of 2013.

She received her Master of Science in Nursing at Simmons College and her PhD in Nursing at Boston College.
