Winter is for Building Birdhouses

Sign up your 3-5th grader to learn about small songbirds and build a wooden birdhouse to take home!

The Waltham Land Trust invites 3rd, 4th and 5th graders to register for a special school vacation activity happening on Wednesday, February 18 at 1 pm. Harry Kimball of harrysbirdhouses.com will teach us about the chickadee, north Carolina wren, tufted titmouse, nuthatch and other small song birds that live in our area. Then, following Harry’s instructions, each participant will build a birdhouse to take back to his/her yard, creating more homes for birds in Waltham!

Harry is providing the Land Trust, at a discounted price, kits that contain the pine wood pieces of the birdhouses. Funding from the Waltham Cultural Council (WCC) is paying for these kits. Thanks Harry and WCC!

We have a limited number of kits, so registration is required. Email Sonja at swadman@walthamlandtrust.org and let us know your child’s name, grade, school, and city (preference will be given to children in Waltham schools). Each participant will use a hammer and a Phillip’s head screwdriver; let us know if you need these provided when registering.

For more information about this and other programs of the Waltham Land Trust, visit walthamlandtrust.org or call the WLT office at 781-893-3355.
