A winter getaway in your backyard

Beat the winter blues with a visit to Historic New England's Lyman Estate and Greenhouses.

WALTHAM, MASS. – February 2015 – Enjoy the camellia blooming season at Historic New England’s Lyman Estate Greenhouses, from Wednesday, February 18 to Sunday, March 12, from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Warm up at the Lyman Estate Greenhouses
Treat yourself to a mini-vacation at the historic Lyman Estate Greenhouses and soak up the atmosphere and colors of the tropics, along with some history. Enjoy the 100-year old camellias in full bloom at one of the oldest surviving greenhouses in the United States. Free.

Learn more about the History of Camellias in Boston on March 7, when Historic New England Greenhouse Manager Lynn Ackerman presents an illustrated lecture on the rich history of camellia cultivation in the area. Lecture tickets are $5.

Take a tour of the historic Lyman Estate mansion
Historic New England also offers guided tours of the Lyman Estate mansion. Discover the Lyman family story as you explore the mansion with its elegant ballroom and graceful oval parlor, both pristine examples of Federal design. Tours are Saturday, February 21, Sunday, February 22, Wednesday, March 4, and Sunday, March 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tours of the mansion are $5.
