Rabbi Kummer to teach "Judaism and the Environment: Foundational Texts" in March
Frame your environmental activism in a Jewish foundation by studying Jewish environmental principles through Biblical and Rabbinic texts

Since Biblical times, Judaism has teachings that encourage gratitude for and preservation of our natural environment. During the month of March, Rabbi Judith Kummer, Executive Director of the Jewish Chaplaincy Council of Massachusetts, will lead a short course studying Biblical and rabbinic texts and discussing the Jewish environmental principles derived from them.
A super teacher, Rabbi Kummer earned a BA from Barnard College in Environmental Studies and Urban Planning and was ordained at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Philadelphia.
There are no prerequisites. All Boston-area Jewish climate activists are encouraged to study together. Classes will be on March 8, 16, and 30 at 7-8:30 PM at the Synagogue Council Office at 1320 Center Street, #306, Newton Center. This is an opportunity to put a Jewish foundation and framework on your environmental activism.
The cost for all three classes is $54, or $18 for one class. Pay by check or cash at the door. Please donate more if you can afford it to support attendance for those with less to spend. RSVP to jewishclimateaction@gmail.com. Cosponsored by the Synagogue Council of Massachusetts and the Jewish Climate Action Network.
The Jewish Climate Action Network (JCAN) is a Boston-area volunteer organization working with synagogues in New England to help substantially reduce carbon footprints. We are currently identifying “green teams” and “green contacts” at area synagogues. We have initiated the Bentshmarking Campaign, asking each area synagogue to benchmark its energy use. We want to help the Jewish community be part of the solution, even leaders in climate change action. Learn more at jewishclimate.org
