📰 News we're reading

1. Wellesley imagines what North 40 can do for community going forward (theswellesleyreport.com) — Wellesley residents just weighed in on the future of the town-owned North 40, debating everything from a new fire station and housing to expanded gardens and a proposed bike skills park from local teens. If you care about recreation, conservation, or public safety in Wellesley, expect more chances soon to shape what happens on these 46 critical acres.

2. Rising Stars and World-Class Talent to Compete at 50th Boston 10K for Women (runblogrun.com) — A Wellesley-based runner, Maggie Donahue, will line up with national and international elites at the 50th Boston 10K for Women on Saturday, October 10. The milestone race, featuring more than 7,000 participants and a boosted prize purse, offers local fans a chance to cheer on Donahue and other New England standouts on a fast Back Bay and Memorial Drive course.

3. Press Release Massachusetts Delivers Specialized Training to Prepare Firefighters for Building Collapses and Major Emergencies (mass.gov) — Wellesley firefighters just took part in an intensive state-run course on rescuing people from building collapses and other major structural emergencies. The free, eight-day training in Bridgewater teaches advanced techniques for lifting debris, breaching concrete, and stabilizing damaged structures, helping ensure Wellesley crews are better prepared if a rare but serious disaster strikes close to home.

4. Groups Tied to Harvard Sue DHS Over New Limits on International Student Internships (thecrimson.com) — New federal limits on internships for international students have prompted a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security and led Wellesley College to pause Curricular Practical Training authorizations. That means some Wellesley international students are already losing internship and research options while the case plays out, and local families and employers may see ripple effects this semester and beyond.
