Three Minutes on a Park Bench with Ryan Maloney
The President of Julio's Liquor tells readers the keys to great customer service and some of the challenging aspects of running a business.

Ryan Maloney may have started in the liquor business before he was old enough to legally drink, but since then he as learned a few key business insights and been able to honor his grandfather.
Ryan: The business was named after my Grandfather Julio Colangelo. When I bought the business I kept the name to honor and remember where I came from.

Ryan: Westboro is a great town with people that are not only our customers, but friends as well.
Patch: If you were to get an indulgent snack in your town, where would you go and what would you get?

Ryan: I’d have to say a Chicken & prosciutto sub at Ziti’s.
Patch: What attracted to you to this business, and how did you start?
Ryan: I started in the liquor business as a bottle return boy at 16. I’ve worked in different aspects of the liquor business as well as a security investigator for the secretary of state, but I love retail’s interaction with people.
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
Ryan: Having an ex-business partner try to take away my ownership in the store. It’s an arduous tale, but with the support of my family and especially my wife Jenn, we came out stronger.
Patch: You’re not the only person in this business. How do you distinguish yourself from the others?
Ryan: I think it is our attention to customer service. Plus we have many “out of the box” events and experiences for our customers! We just launched the Bourbon Assault Vehicle, this van will be the primary mode of transportation for Julio’s new educational outings, called Spirited Experiences.
Patch: What advice would you give to a person just starting in your business?
Ryan: Be patient, overnight success stories take lots of time! Work hard and be fair, because at the end of the day all you really have is your word and your reputation.
