Westborough Fire Department Awarded $18K For New Gear
The award was part of $5 million in funding to fire departments across the state.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — The Westborough Fire Department is among hundreds of departments in the state that were awarded funding to purchase new safety equipment.
Westborough was awarded a $18,729.06 grant to purchase equipment, including protective gear and other tools, to keep firefighters safe on the job, and to strengthen public safety and protect first responders. The grant was part of $5 million in grant funding to fire departments across the state, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced on Wednesday.
Rep. Hannah Kane (D-11th Worcester) said the funding will help Westborough "purchase equipment such as protective gear and other tools to keep firefighters safe on the job, strengthening public safety and protecting first responders."

The funding comes from the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services' Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant program, which provides reimbursement for purchases of around 100 different types of equipment. Fire departments in Massachusetts are invited to apply for the program and receive reimbursement for items such as hoses, turnout gear, and ballistic protective equipment.
“Massachusetts firefighters answer the call in every corner of our state and our job is to make sure they have what they need to do it safely,” said Governor Maura Healey. “We're investing in the equipment that protects them on the front lines and strengthening departments in more than 300 communities so they can continue protecting all of us.”
