Middlesex Community College makes getting a college education easy. Dedicated to the academic, professional and personal success of students, Middlesex strives to help students fit learning into their schedules while saving money. With flexible course options, high-quality content and easy access to student resources and services, students can take accelerated courses with MCC’s Spring Mini-mester II, starting on Monday, March 29.

In MCC’s eight-week Mini-mester sessions, students receive the same content, academic standards and number of instructional hours as courses scheduled in the traditional 15-week semester. This allows students to complete general requirements and earn credits in a variety of subjects, including English, science, history, social science, mathematics and more.

“I like Mini-mesters because it gives me the opportunity to have three courses at a time,” said Sam Holmes, MCC Computer Science major. “I think they’re very convenient.”

Students starting their college education and hoping to transfer to a four-year college or university can complete general requirements at Middlesex and save money long term on tuition. Mini-mesters also provide students with an opportunity to explore different subjects and areas of interest.

“Take your core classes and then maybe take an elective or two in what you’re really interested in, and that might help shift your pathway,” said Malayah Montgomery, MCC History and Global Studies major. “I think Middlesex gives you a great opportunity to look at different classes and choose what looks interesting or what you want to learn about.”

Starting in Spring 2020, Middlesex made a successful transition to online courses and student services. For Spring Mini-mester II, three course formats will be offered – online with no meeting times, online with meeting times, and a hybrid blend of online and on-campus experiences.

In classes that are online with no meeting times, students interact with lectures, lessons and exercises all online over the course of the semester and have no scheduled meeting days or times.. Students taking online courses with meeting times have scheduled meeting days, and must be online during those specific times.

Hybrid online and on-campus classes – with either lectures or labs – allow students to complete some work online and some in-person in a safe and controlled setting, while following MCC’s strict safety protocols and social distancing.

Students taking courses at Middlesex also have access to a number of resources and student services that will lend to their overall success at the college and beyond.

“MCC has great resources that help students, like advising, tutoring and the Libraries,” said Daniella Dankwa, MCC Student Trustee and Nursing major. “Make sure you ask questions, connect with your professors. The school has done a great job helping students during this time.”
