Weston Woman Honored As 'Unsung Heroine'
She was honored at the Statehouse by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.

WESTON, MA — A Weston resident was honored as an unsung heroine for her work in the community. Nazda Alam was honored at the Statehouse on Tuesday by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women.
The 'Unsung Heroines' ceremony was created to honor women across the Commonwealth who act as positive change-makers in their community and beyond. Each woman who was honored was recommended by their local legislators.
Nazda Alam is a Muslim-American community organizer in Weston and was recommended by Rep. Alice Peisch. In her recommendation of Alam, Peisch said, " Nazda has continually worked to serve and contribute to the community of Weston and the Commonwealth."

Alam was born in Bangladesh and immigrated to the United States in 1982, she serves as the Chair of the Muslim Voter Registration Project and works to increase civic and electoral participation among Muslim and immigrant communities. She founded the Nazda Alam Foundation for Muslim Women Civic Engagement & Leadership in Weston, MA; an initiative to support Muslim women’s participation locally and globally in social and political processes.
Alam is a founding member of the Daughters of Abraham, an interfaith book group devoted to fostering mutual respect and understanding among Muslim, Jewish, and Christian women. She is a social worker with the Department of Children and Families, and holds master’s degrees in political science and education. She is inspired by her desire to keep children and communities safe. In addition to her activism in Weston and throughout the Commonwealth, Nazda continues to work to improve quality of life through housing and education for women and girls in Bangladesh.
