Youth In Philanthropy Expands To Weston

The Foundation for MetroWest will launch a new program for high school students in January.

WESTON, MA – The Foundation for MetroWest's Youth in Philanthropy initiative this week announced the launch of a new program for high school students in Weston. The program will begin Jan. 22 and will be held at the Weston Public Library every Monday from 7-8:30 p.m. until late May.

YIP is one of the largest youth philanthropy education programs in the country. It is designed for students interested in learning more about non-profit organizations and addressing community needs. Participants research local organizations and award $10,000 in grants, with no fees or tuition required.

Over the past 20 years, YIP has educated more than 1,250 teens who have granted more than $1 million to youth-serving organizations in the MetroWest area.

"As an organization, we take great pride in educating the next generation of philanthropists," said
Judith G. Salerno, executive director of the Foundation for MetroWest. "By expanding the YIP
program to Weston, we hope to have a greater impact than ever before on the MetroWest community.
Not only are the students giving back, but they’re learning about the nonprofit space, how
philanthropy affects where they live, and how they can make an impact."

Current high school students who live or learn in Weston and surrounding communities are
eligible to apply for this program. To learn more about how student groups involved in YIP programs across the region have made positive impacts on the MetroWest community, visit www.yipmetrowest.org.
