Cyclist’s Injuries Non Life-Threatening After Monday Crash

A male bicyclist is conscious and alert following a collision with a vehicle on High Street in Westwood Monday, according to Westwood Police. 

The incident occurred around 5:44 p.m. Monday in the area of 637 High St., where the cyclist, a 36-year-old male from West Roxbury, collided with a motor vehicle operated by a Medway resident. 

The cyclist, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was transported to Brigham and Women's hospital in Boston via MedFlight helicopter for injuries that were described as non-life threatening.

Westwood Police are investigating the crash, however, as the vehicle involved was traveling east on High Street and was waiting for a break in traffic in the westbound lane to turn into the driveway of 637 High St., according to a statement Tuesday morning. 

The operator of the mini-van was waved on to turn into the driveway by a stopped westbound motorist, according to police. The cyclist, who was riding westbound, was cycling alongside the slowed and stopped vehicular traffic, unaware that the min-van was turning into the driveway, resulting in the collision.
