Small Tremors Felt on University Ave. Due to Tuesday Quake

No structural damage or injuries were reported.

Tremors from a 5.9 magniture earthquake that struck outside of Richmond, Va., before 2 p.m. Tuesday reached as far north along the east coast as Boston, and were even felt in Westwood.

Westwood Police received a 9-1-1 call shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday from Filter Fresh, located at 378 University Ave.

The and Building Inspector responded to the building, which was briefly evacuated as a standard safety measure.

"A number of the occupats of the building felt a shimmy, and as a result called 9-1-1," Westwood Police Detective Paul Toland told Westwood Patch Tuesday afternoon.

There were no reports of structural damage or injuries as a result of the tremor.

"It's not a large building," Toland said. "It's a two-story building at most."

Westwood Library Director Tom Viti said that construction crews working on the site of the were still working as of 2:30 p.m. today, and he had received no reports of safety issues at that time.

Discussion was aflurry on Twitter, as well. User Brenden77 said he felt the tremor in Westwood, and Scott Posnick said tremors were felt at on University Avenue.
