Westwood Police Log: BB Gun Pellets Hit Sign, a Mail Scam and a Suspicious Driver

Temple Beth David Sign Vandalized
are investigating an alleged vandalism to a sign in front of , which was reported on Oct. 5 at around 3:09 p.m.. According to police reports, the sign was struck with BB gun pellets.
Mail Scam

A resident of Westwood Glen Road reported to police on Oct. 5 at around 4:37 p.m. that a "very real" check had come in the mail, though the resident stated that it may have been a scam.
Preliminary investigation revealed that it was in fact a scam run out of British Columbia, Canada. The matter remains under investigation.

Laptop, Jewelry Stolen
A Canton Street resident reported called police on Oct. 7 around 5 p.m. to report that their home had been broken into, and a laptop computer and some jewelry had been taken.
While the matter was reported at around 5 p.m., police said the incident occurred sometime between 11:15 a.m. and 5 p.m. that day. The matter remains under investigation.
Driver Spotted Wearing Odd Mask
On Oct. 9, around 12:19 p.m., police received a report from an Aran Road resident that a black and blue Seabring vehicle had been driving around the neighborhood sometime before 7 p.m. on Oct. 8.
An occupant of the Seabring was reportedly wearing an "old lady Halloween mask," and had been allegedly asking people in the neighborhood if they needed help carrying groceries.
Police asked the resident to report to them if the vehicle was seen again.
Toyota Van Stolen
Police are looking for a 2006 Toyota van that was stolen during the overnight hours between Oct. 10 and Oct. 11.
A purse belonging to the van's owner was left inside the van; the vehicle's keys were left inside the purse, police said.
A broadcast of the stolen vehicle was made to state agencies.
