New Medical Sharps Disposal Kiosk in Winchester
This new kiosk will come in handy since disposing of medical sharps in regular trash was banned in Massachusetts.

Residents can safely dispose of medical sharps into a new kiosk in Winchester.
The Winchester Board of Health received a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to buy a kiosk for residents to get rid of sharps for free, the Town of Winchester announced.
Medical sharps include needles, syringes and lancets.

The new kiosk adds to the Town’s medication disposal kiosk. This kiosk accepts prescription and over-the-counter medications.
The two kiosks are located in the lobby of the Public Safety Building at 32 Mt. Vernon St.

Residents are welcome to drop-off medical sharps and unwanted or expired pills at any time.
Disposing of medical sharps in regular trash was banned by the MA Department of Public Health in July 2012.
The Town of Winchester provided instructions for residents before they deposit household sharps in the Winchester kiosk:
- Store sharps in sharps containers that are puncture resistant and not see through.
- Empty containers that store medical sharps can be purchased at the Board of Health office at Town Hall, 71 Mt. Vernon St., or at local pharmacies.
- Glass containers, coffee cans, cardboard boxes, paper bags and plastic bags cannot be used to store sharps.
Instructions for disposing of medications into the kiosk:
- Remove personal information from prescription labels.
- Place loose medications in a clear plastic bag.
