Winchester Girls Youth Hockey at State Tournament
The Sachems U10 team fought hard and played well despite not advancing to the finals.

The Winchester Youth Hockey Girls U10 team proved they were a force to be reckoned with this season.
The Sachems “stormed into Springfield” last weekend for the Massachusetts Hockey Tier III Girls U10 State Championships.
Head Coaches Kieran Brosnan and Tim Driscoll were pleased with how the team performed.

The Sachems lost to the Needham Rockets 2-1 on the first day of the tournament.
The team went on to defeat the Lynnfield Panthers 4-2 on Saturday morning. The Sachems then lost to the Natick Comets 3-1. They did not advance to the finals despite a hard-fought effort.
Here’s what head coach Tim Driscoll had to say about his players:
- Goalie Alyssa Freedman punched above her weight class the entire weekend and made some flashy glove saves against Natick.
- The shut-down defensive pairing of Maggie Fortin and Grace Brosnan built upon a strong season-long resume.
- Kenzie Driscoll played a stable at-home defensive style that allowed her defensive partner Amelia Lynch to orchestrate the offensive push for the entire team.
- Alexandria Dente was a relentless whirling dervish. Katie Riley was a back-checking machine and Julia “Mad Dog Bounty Hunter” LoBello kept her opponents honest.
- Samantha Kimball played beautifully and flawlessly, often skating alongside Emma Walsh, who was in constant pursuit of the puck.
- Gianna Vozzella was her usual indomitable self and Maire Dooley roamed the ice looking for opportunities.
- Irene Mandile continued to be a force of nature and created headaches for the opposition all weekend long.
The head coaches predicted that this team will take home a U12A State Championship in 2017.
