Developer Eyes Atlantic Gelatin Property For Assisted Living

Boston-based Leggat McCall Properties is making a second run to redevelop the property.

WOBURN, MA -- A developer is once again looking to remake the site of the Atlantic Gelatin Plant in Woburn. City Council scheduled a public hearing for June 5 on a proposal by Leggat McCall Properties to expand Woburn's Technology and Business Mixed Use Overlay District to include the property, which would allow the company to include an assisted living facility as part of the redevelopment of that and an adjoining property.

In 2016, Leggat McCall backed out of a deal to acquire the property. It has since acquired two adjoining properties that were also part of Heinz Kraft's property holdings in Woburn. In marketing materials, the combined parcel has been dubbed "Montvale Hill," and is being promoted for uses beyond the assisted living facility.

Combined, the parcels include 107 acres and include frontage on Route 93. The petition that will be discussed June 5 only involves the parcel that includes the 396,522 square foot manufacturing plant that was closed in 2016.
