Massachusetts Banks Report Black Friday Direct Deposit Problems
Nothing puts a damper on Black Friday shopping than waking up to find out your pay check didn't make it into your bank account.

BOSTON, MA -- Some Eastern Bank customers may have had trouble jumping into the Black Friday fray. Eastern and other banks reported a glitch Friday morning that resulted in some direct deposit payments not being properly credited to customer accounts. By early Friday afternoon, the problem had been tracked to a third party vendor, and Eastern reported it had resolved the problem.
As a result of the problem, some customers who expected to receive payroll checks via direct deposit did not see those deposits credited to their accounts. While the glitch stemmed from a third-party software problem and reportedly affected banks throughout the region, Eastern was one of the few local banks that took to social media to apprise customers of the problem and efforts to correct it.
It's not clear how many banks or customers were affected, but the problem seems to be a national one. Patch has reached out to spokespeople from several banks with big footprints in Massachusetts to see if they were impacted and if they, like Eastern, have been able to resolve the issue for their customers.
