WOBURN, MA—Woburn Mayor Scott Galvin and Acting Police Chief and Captain Robert Rufo addressed members of the media Thursday after authorities arrested 29-year-old Tyson Delgado in connection with Wednesday’s hit-and-run accident.
Delgado is being charged with larceny of $250, assault and battery of a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon of a person over the age of 65 and negligent operation of a vehicle. Rufo said that Delgado has a lengthy and violent criminal history.
“He’s a dangerous career felon,” Rufo said when asked about the importance of this arrest.

Police found Delgado in a bedroom of a Dorchester residence believed to be a relative’s house. Police were given the information by a cooperating witness.
Police showed up to a North Woburn asphalt corporation at 9 a.m. Wednesday after a report of a threat. Rufo added that Delgado was a former employee of the business, and that he was there to make a deal to repay them for stolen items.

While being interviewed by police, Delgado allegedly assaulted an officer and fled the scene in a white Chevrolet. Delgado later drove down a narrow side street and struck a 65-year-old man was walking in a crosswalk. Police say Delgado continued to drive for several hundred yards before the man fell off the vehicle.
Police are still unclear about how Delgado was able to leave Woburn.
“This was a very disturbing incident, involving a career criminal who showed reckless disregard for the safety of those around him and our community at large,” Mayor Galvin said at the press conference.
Delgado is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Woburn District Court.
“Thanks to the diligent work by police in this case, we were able to quickly locate this dangerous suspect and take him in without any incident,” Rufo said. “I would like to acknowledge all of our law enforcement partners, including the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section for their assistance in this matter, and thank the public for their cooperation.”
