Retired Police Chief Will Fill Vacant Woburn City Council Seat

After a deadlock earlier this month, Aldermen unanimously chose Robert Ferullo to serve the remainder of Rich Haggerty's term.

WOBURN, MA -- Aldermen unanimously chose retired Woburn Police Chief Robert Ferullo to fill the remainder of Rich Haggerty's term on the board. Haggerty resigned earlier this year to be sworn in as state representative after being elected to the higher post in November. Ferullo retired as Woburn Police Chief in November.

This week's vote comes after a session earlier this month, in which Aldermen appeared to be hopelessly deadlocked in choosing a successor for Haggerty from a pool of 13 candidates. After 41 rounds of voting at the earlier meeting, Ward 1 Alderman Joanne Campbell, Ward 2 Alderman Richard Gately, Ward 3 Alderman Mark Gaffney, and Ward 7 Alderman Lindsay Higgins backed former City Council President Bryan Melanson, while Alderman at-large Michael Concannon, Ward 5 Alderman Darlene Mercer-Bruen, Ward 6 Alderman Edward Tedesco, and City Council President Michael Anderson backed Ferullo.

Ferullo will serve the remainder of Haggerty's term, which is up for reelection in November.
